Stranded

Our Iowa "temporary housing"
Our Iowa “temporary housing”

Wow what a day.  We are stranded at the airport in Des Moines, IA.  How we got to this point:

– We started out day at 1:45 or so @ the airport in Houston, TX for a 3:10 flight.  After 2 gate changes and a 1 hour delay we took off for Omaha, aware the flight may be a little “bumpy”

– We are told about 1 hour and 30 minutes into a 1 hour 45 minute flight that we are going to be landing in Des Moines, IA in 20 minutes and the airport in Omaha, NE is closed. You would think that with a storm that is traveling east we might attempt to land somewhere to the west of the storm to avoid having to travel INTO THE STORM later, but I guess that didn’t make sense. O well…

– they keep us on the plane for I have no idea how long giving us the impression the entire time that we will be taking off shortly, which is courious considering the storm is now heading right for us, but ok. Zachs DVD player still has battery that is all good. Well, what seems like about an hour passes and they finally let us off the airplane to wait out the storm in the terminal and the airport has NOW CLOSED. Ouch…

So here we are. Hello Iowa!
