An Atheist That Has Some Interesting Stuff To Say
I ran across the story of former believer turned atheist Luke Muehlhauser yesterday on one of my favorite blogs, Fallen and Flawed. Luke is the author of Common Sense Atheism, which details Luke’s story and where he writes about all the various reasons he says God does not exist and Christianity should not be believed and so on and so forth. The thing thing that he wrote about that caught my attention was some of the things he has to say about Dr. William Lane Craig.
For those not familiar, Dr. Craig is a research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, California who frequently participates in debates with atheists on the existence of God. Luke admits that Dr. Craig has probably never lost any of these debates and proceeds to give a laundry list of some predominant atheists and how he thinks they have/would fare in such a forum. Here is the exact quote:
So yeah, that’s right. You are not qualified to debate William Lane Craig. Richard Carrier? Austin Dacey? Quentin Smith? Bart Ehrman? You are not qualified to debate William Lane Craig. Louise Antony? Christopher Hitchens? Eddie Tabash? You are not qualified to debate William Lane Craig. Frank Zindler? Gerd Ludermann? Hector Avalos? You are not qualified to debate William Lane Craig.
“What about some people who would like to debate Craig?”
Mark Smith? John Loftus? You are not qualified to debate William Lane Craig.
“Okay, well, is anyone qualified to debate William Lane Craig?”
Nobody comes to mind…
Luke also admits in a separate post (after trying to attribute Dr. Craig’s success to superior debating skills and poor arguments posed by atheists) that:
Of course, another possible explanation for Craig’s success is that his arguments are sound, and God does exist.
Indeed it is Luke.
I would encourage you to give up an episode or two of whatever unimportant television show it is that you watch, clink on this link, and watch a master practice his craft.
