I Wonder if he will Mow the Lawn…

May 31, 2009

Around mid May we found out via the information super highway that our church was going to be hosting an intern this summer and was looking for a place for him to stay.  Thinking that our situation might not be ideal, we decided to let the idea of him staying with us pass.  However,we kept thinking about the prospect and what it might be like for him to stay with us.  What about our situation didn’t make it ideal?  We came to the conclusion they were mainly earthly things.   It wasn’t that we weren’t willing, just that we thought our house and space might not be the best fit.

Well a few weeks passed and an adequate living arrangement still hadn’t been found.  Hmm.  After Shelby and I reconsidered the prospect (separately mind you, I was at work and she was at home) she phoned me at work and we seemed to be thinking the same thing.  Maybe we should do this.  A few phone calls, some more discussion (we asked Zach what he thought too), and a Wednesday night prayer gathering later and boom; we are hosting an intern.

Collin will be staying with us for a few months this summer and we are really excited.  Although our roll is a small part, we hope to make ourselves a useful guide into what it is like for is to function as a member of the church (and not just our local expression of the church but the Church).  If you would like to follow Collin in his endeavors, he will be blogging about the experience here.  The link to his website has also been added to our blogroll in the menu on the left.

The experience also could make for an interesting sociological experiment given the fact that Shelby is a Red Raider alum (and I should be one) and Collin is more or less a part of, to borrow a term from Star Wars, the dark side of the force.  He is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin.  We knew there was a greater purpose why we have kept the football game from last fall recorded on our DVR all these months. Just kidding, Collin!  We won’t make you relive the pain.  =)

However, I wonder if he will mow the lawn…

Love this! Collin will fit right in with you and your sense of humor and personality. He is one of my earthly joys and does have the capabilities of lawn mowing, testing water samples, picking up golf balls, running the pro shop, and serving Italian food (all former jobs). Thanks for taking him in… makes the mom very happy! 🙂
